3 RVing Etiquette Tips

If you have decided to take up the great hobby of RVing, you are going to spend time in RV parks as you drive across the United States. When it comes to staying in an RV park, there is a certain etiquette that you should be aware of that will help you get the most from your experience.

Make a Reservation

The days of driving around and finding an RV park or campsite and just pulling up and claiming it for the night are long gone. Many campgrounds only have so many spots for motorhomes and may do not have sites that are big enough for your RV, especially if you have a Class A vehicle.

Many RV campsites, as a result, get a lot of traffic, as they are designed for RV vehicles. If you want to ensure you have a spot for your RV when you head out on a vacation or a road trip, it is best to make a reservation to not leave without a place to call home.

Plan Your Route

Driving around in an RV is different than driving around in a regular car. You need to have space to turn around, and you have to be aware of areas with low clearance. You don't want to get lost when you are driving around in a big RV. That is why you should plan your trip. Be sure to consult resources that will let you know where low-clearance roads are located so you can avoid them, and plan to stop at truck stops, where there will be enough space to park your vehicle while you full and take a break.

Take Privacy Seriously

When you are in an RV park, even if the park has a more natural setting, you will be close to your neighbor. Staying in an RV park is not like hiking into a remote location and pitching a tent; you will have a nearby neighbor.

At nighttime, draw your curtains or blinds just like you would do at home so that you have privacy as you move around in your RV. Be aware of how sound carries, don't play your music too loud, or get into yelling arguments. Don't walk through other RVer's campsites; treat their campsite like their home, and only enter with permission. Work to respect the privacy and space of yourself and others.
